Interactive Earth

The Opportunity

In this grad school group project, we were asked to design for sustainability. We built an Interactive Earth shaped trashcan designed to teach young kids how to segregate and recycle their trash everyday. Our prototype gives positive and negative feedback based on accurate trash segregation and instills a habit of recycling in kids in their formative years.

My Role

I was a part of research effort which led to choosing young kids as the target demographic. I conducted a thorough literature review to focus the scope of the project to teach kids recycling and segregation of trash with the trash they generate in school. I also introduced the concept of positive and negative feedback. I led the prototype fabrication for two iterations, first with cardboard and paper and second with a metal frame and white fabric.
